1. Who we are
SquidRoll is an AI-powered explainer video generator operated as a solo product by its founder. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at hello@squidroll.com.
2. What data we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to provide the service:
- Account data: email address, name (if provided), and authentication credentials (password hash or OAuth token).
- Content data: the scripts and topics you submit, and the videos we generate for you.
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, generation count, and session duration. Collected via PostHog analytics.
- Payment data: handled entirely by LemonSqueezy (our Merchant of Record). We never see or store your credit card number.
3. How we use your data
- Generate explainer videos from your scripts.
- Manage your account, credits, and subscription.
- Improve the product based on aggregated usage patterns.
- Send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets).
- We do not sell your data. We do not use your scripts or videos to train AI models.
4. Third-party services
We use the following services to operate SquidRoll. Each has its own privacy policy:

5. Cookies
We use minimal cookies:
- Authentication cookies: keep you signed in. Essential for the service to function.
- Analytics cookies: PostHog uses a cookie to track anonymous session data. You can opt out via your browser settings.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
6. AI-generated content
When you generate a video, your script is sent to Anthropic (Claude) for storyboarding and to OpenAI or ElevenLabs for voiceover. These services process your text to generate the video and do not retain it for training purposes under their API terms.
You own the videos you generate. SquidRoll does not claim ownership of your content. On the free tier, videos include a SquidRoll watermark.
7. Data retention
- Account data: retained until you delete your account.
- Generated videos: stored on Cloudflare R2 until you delete them or your account.
- Analytics data: PostHog retains anonymised event data for 12 months.
8. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data and account.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to processing of your data.

9. Data security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) to isolate user data, hashed passwords, and secure API key management. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
10. Children
SquidRoll is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on the site. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
